Have you ever met a woman who radiates confidence, seemingly at ease in her own skin? She glows — not just because of her skincare routine, but because of something much deeper.
What’s her secret? And more importantly, how can we cultivate that same level of comfort and self-assurance in ourselves?
My Story - Physically Being Uncomfortable in My Own Skin
On the first day of lockdown in 2020 I suddenly became extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. I was called by the hospital, insisting I needed to see the consultant face to face, following a mole removal.
Terrified, on so many levels, I was taken on the empty roads by my husband to the near empty hospital and was diagnosed with having melanoma skin cancer. I was told they had caught it early but I needed surgery to remove a larger area of skin on the top of my thigh. I was terrified. I had lost my mum in 2018 to cancer which was first diagnosed as a melanoma. How could this be happening to me?
The thing you don't immediately think about with a life changing diagnosis is the mental effect. It makes everything feel unstable, unsure, precious and sacred all at once. I had more surgery and am still being monitored by the hospital but things are looking ok at the moment which I am very thankful for.
Overnight however, I felt physically and emotionally uncomfortable in my own skin. I was neurotic about moles and terrified of the sun. I became obsessed about what I was putting on my skin and then the research began that led to launching The Flower Power Company face oil. I decided to lead a more natural life with more natural ingredients and more appreciation of nature all round. I partnered with a dermatologist and approached experts in natural cosmetics to help me formulate a gentle moisturiser that I was happy to use. This is my Sunflower Promise about the ingredients I use.
Important disclaimer! My products have nothing to do with preventing cancer and I make no claims that they do. I have simply made a lifestyle choice to use plant based skincare. I also choose more natural food and cleaning products where possible now too. Sun screen, hats and seeking shade are now also part of my life.
Emotional Comfort In Your Own Skin
Many people are not physically comfortable in their own skin because it is dry, taught or feels unnourished. I can certainly help with that and have so many testimonials to prove that other flower loving ladies agree with me.
Emotionally though, I am considering how I can help with that too. It is a travesty that so many women (me definitely included) go through life worried about what others think, living someone else's goals and not really going for what they actually truly want.
I have been on a soul seeking mission since losing my parents in 2017 and 2018 to do what they told me to - "Have Fun, Life Is For Living" and now I am finally feeling much more in my own groove. I have been busy shedding expectations and doing things that make me happy. I suffered a confidence crisis following my diagnosis but I now feel ready to share that I feel good again!
The Power of Natural Beauty
In my world, confidence isn’t about perfection; it’s about embracing what makes you uniquely YOU. We only get one chance to twist around this mortal coil so why do so many of us (myself included) worry so much about what others think and what we “should” do?
This is a question I have pondered a lot recently. Why am I scared to show up more in my own brand promotion? I am SOOO proud of the brand I am creating because of the wonderful feedback that my customers give me but I know I am still playing small. I trust that the healing power of flowers will help me grow though so watch this space….
I have noticed that my customers who feel most comfortable in their own skin often prioritize joy and self-care because they want to; not because a skincare brand tells them to. They choose products that nourish rather than conceal their so called “flaws”.
A natural skincare routine using plant-based ingredients supports skin health, enhancing natural beauty rather than "turning back the years".
Don't fall for the marketing hype that you have to look 21, whatever your age. My wrinkles for example are well earned! Every smile, every laugh, every frown is something I own. I am therefore very careful not to promise that The Flower Power Company Face Oil will erase the lines and be the eternal fountain of youth. You are more intelligent than that.
Skincare as Self-Care
A simple empowering skincare routine can be seen as empowering self care though, just don't believe the hype and don't feel the pressure to conform. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good in your own skin. Hydrated, nourished skin is more resilient, radiant, and physically comfortable to be in. Skin feels softer and literally more comfortable to live in. Using a high-quality botanical face oil can help replenish moisture, restore balance, and give skin a natural, healthy glow. That is a good place to start to feel physically comfortable in your own skin.
Choosing Skincare That Supports Your Confidence
Women who want to feel good in their own skin understand that what they apply to their face matters. Harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, and synthetic additives can irritate, dry out, or disrupt the skin’s natural balance. Instead, my customers opt for natural, nutrient-rich skincare designed to support the skin’s barrier and enhance its vitality.
At The Flower Power Company, we believe in harnessing the power of nature to bring out your best skin. Our flower-infused facial oil is crafted with a blend of botanical flower inspired ingredients, designed to deeply nourish and restore, helping you feel more at ease in your skin every day.
Here are some of our face oil testimonials from ladies that love the feeling that using our oil creates.
The Mind-Skin Connection
Confidence is so much more than skin deep, but how your skin looks and feels can directly impact your self-esteem. When your skin is dry, irritated, or unbalanced, it’s easy to feel uncomfortable. A skincare routine that focuses on hydration and nourishment can work wonders but it is only part of the journey. So much is about how you feel inside. Audrey Hepburn is quoted to say that “Happy girls are the prettiest". I truly believe that the twinkle in the eye is where it is at.
Embrace Your Natural Glow
Feeling comfortable in your skin starts with treating yourself with kindness. Whether it’s through mindful skincare, nourishing your body with the right foods, or simply taking a moment for yourself each day; self-care plays a huge role in self-confidence. When your skin is healthy, radiant, and hydrated, it naturally boosts your confidence but it is what is on the inside that counts the most.
